Field Trip To Walmart Super Center

Well, it's been a while since I've updated this old journal :o) I'm not sure why, but I couldn't do "AOL-you've got pictures" from from MiaRenee.. I am hoping it'll load from  here.

I'll try to not get too wordy, as the pictures are what we call a social story, themselves. Stephen and his friends had a blast yesterday. I was even able to let go, and trust that he'd be okay at IHOP without me,  bc I had too many things to do yesterday. He made it home just fine, and I don't even feel very guilty for not going on the 2nd part of the fieldtrip! How's that? :P

I'm going to admit something: I really hate fieldtrips. But, I remember being a kid and everyone else's moms went with our class and I would secretly be upset that my mama wasn't there. I always said, "When I grow up, I'm gonna go with my kids!" So, I feel like I have to stick to that now. It's usually okay after I get there, but by the end of the day, I have a headache that nothing can make go away.  And guess what? We were the only parents there.

We had asked his teachers to not let him know that we were going to be there, bc we wanted to observe how he behaves when we aren't around. He was an angel! (the lil stinker!) One of the last times I took him shopping with  me, I said I'd never go with him again unless someone else could go too! He pulled over a whole display of tampons! I was about 500 shades of red, and just stepped over them and kept walking as some jerk was laughing at us. (what was HE doing in the feminine product aisle anyway?) So I've gotten a little wordy, and off track, please forgive me. What I'm getting at is, here I was, feeling bad for not wanting to go and after he saw us in Walmart, he smiled and went back to shopping! He didn't even care! But, that makes me feel better. I  know he must really feel comfortable with his teachers. Please take a moment to look at our pics up there. Don't mind the blurry ones, I didn't want to use my flash in Walmart and that group of kids moved fast! If the album doesn't come up, try your refresh key..works for me sometimes. Have a great weekend!

LoL.. I'm sorry, sweetie, but if I had been with you, I would have laughed at the tampon incident too. tehehe.. it's a lot easier to laugh, though, when you have friends by your side, I guess. Great photos! I love the photos and captions so much! You always tell a story with your photographs. It's like a picture book. Stephen must have a fabulous school to do such awesome field trips! Shopping and Ihop!! Fun!

SloMo~I could have laughed too if you'd been with me! But, being by myself with him and stressed out at the time, I wanted to take that man who was lol'ing in stead of offering to help me and "shove" one or two of the extra-super-sized ones down his throat :P I'm glad you enjoyed the pics. All of the kids had a great time! I'm glad I went.

What sweet pictures! I agree with you...I love the close-up picture where he's eyeing that new toy. How cute!

You know...I think somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind, I realized you had another journal. But I've never been here before. I'll have to check it out too!

Love you, Mia!

Mia - You had me at "Walmart" - I was completely enthralled from the moment I opened this entry to the very last word. I want a Walmart Field Trip! [heck, I want a Walmart - period]. GREAT pictures! Stephen's really growing into his independence - so are you! I'm actually glad you didn't go to IHOP - good practice in letting go [and finding space for yourself]. Sad that you were the only parents - but I'll bet Stephen felt great about it! [btw: NOT wordy and NOT off-track!] :)

Bridgette~Thanks for stopping by! Yes, although blurry, that's my favorite picture! I can feel what he's feeling :)

Trish~I wish you had a Walmart too. It's a lot like Target. We have a Target, but it's just a tad more $ than Walmart. Yep, he really is growing up (me, too) Friday proves it :)

ahh the pictures are great! isn't it great when our children behave and seem to be at peace without us :) well, it's bittersweet. but, still great. it lets you know that everything is working like it should be. xo love your entry, not wordy at ALL.

Hey, that looked like a great trip. Loved the pics of Stephen. Shopping and IHOPS, doesn't get much better : ) I've knocked things over in stores too.... actually the last time I knocked something over it was in a supermarket. I knocked over one of those warming tables that keep all the cooked chickens warm? Yup, plowed into it, chicken parts everywhere! lol... Clean up, aisle 5. Sorry that man made you feel bad by laughing....

Robbie-so glad that you enjoyed them. It was fun to sneak around and take his pics

Babyshark-exactly, it's a bittersweet feeling! That's the word I'm looking for!

Michelle-LOL, bless your heart! It isn't so funny the moment it happens, but it's nice to lol about it later. I just knew I was going to hear "Clean up on aisle 5 please, near the tampons"! Which is one reason why I left the man there to lol to himself :P

I love picture #8 too, that sense of anticipation for getting home and finally playing with the cool toy, who doesn't identify with that? lol

Stephen is starting to enjoy exploring things on his own, and I think that's great! Your heart must've swelled with pride seeing him so well behaved even without Mom and Dad.

Mara-yes, we can all identify with that feeling! It did do my heart good to see how well be behaved with his class. It seems that lately he's been doing so much better. Even trying to talk!

The pictures were more than wonderful, I'm so glad you let us see them! I also longed for my Mom to be with me on the field trips but she always had small children at home so was never able to. You are an Angel.

Jan-Ahhh, thanks! I'll be sure to tell him all the nice things y'all have said here. I'm pretty sure he understands :) You're a doll for saying I'm an angel...The truth is, HE is such a gift, he'd make anyone near him, appear to be like an angel :) xo

What a sweet trip! He takes such good pictures:) What a great kid! I used to hate my mom going on field trips just because she is kinna like homer simpson, insert foot in mouth...or in her case not:)p but I did like knowing someone was there to support you in the same sense:) The tampon story was funny:) I love it when they do stuff like that...shakes up life a little bit

My daughter walked by just as the first picture was loading and saw the Wal-Mart picture and as she continued walking past she announced she LOVES that store, HATES the overhead, and hasn't been there in so long, let's go today!  Love the pictures of Stephen ~ that look with the toy in the bag. That's my look when I get anything to do with photography or a good book! :)
